SAFETY
Security at Highlands
Within our secure landscape, Highlands Wilderness implements stringent, private security protocols specifically tailored to our unique bushveld setting. We operate as a low-density nature farm, with access strictly controlled via a 12-hour guarded entry gate and a 2.1-metre game fence, one section of which is electrified. Our management rules further enforce high standards of safety, including perimeter patrols when needed and a protocol requiring residents to report any suspicious activity or potential breaches immediately to on-duty guards or the Trustees.
At Highlands Wilderness, we take the safety and security of our residents and their property seriously. It is unfortunate that not only Highlands, but other estates in the surrounding areas sometimes fall victim to criminal activity, which mainly results in the loss of property such as electronic devices, but to date, no serious crime has taken place within Highlands Wilderness.
By leveraging our natural isolation, Highlands Wilderness offers "unrestricted living," where constant monitoring and a visible security presence allow residents to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and mountain biking with a high degree of personal safety.

Even with our natural isolation, Highlands Wilderness remains a vast area to protect, and as such, it is impossible to monitor all criminal or possible criminal activity on a 24-hour basis. You, as the owner, are still responsible for your own security, and we strongly urge you to install CCTV Cameras and intrusion detection (alarm) systems within the surroundings of your own building(s) and secure your premises to the best of your ability.
Additional security protocols are also put in place by the Trustees to further ensure, as far as possible, the safety and security of all our residents. Continuous meetings are held on various platforms and with various security bodies in the greater Waterberg area to exchange information, gain insight into possible criminal trends and to form a close-knit security environment, with the participation of the SAPS, private organisations and neighbouring estates alike.
